Briar Hill Families,

Last Friday’s K-6 Connect Day focused on Briar Hill’s value of Connect. Staff and students created individual wooden hexagon tiles that reflect who they are and their place in our school community. These will become part of a larger collaborative art piece celebrating our shared connections at Briar Hill School.

This work reflects the importance of curiosity and connection in learning, where students grow best when they feel safe, valued, and invited to wonder, and when learning is grounded in strong relationships.

We encourage families to continue nurturing curiosity and connection at home through conversation, shared wondering, and everyday experiences together.

📝 BHS Registration & Welcome to Briar Hill

Registration for Grades K–6 is currently ongoing for new families who live within the Briar Hill School area, as well as those applying from outside our designated boundaries.

If you are part of our Briar Hill community, we would love your help in spreading the word. Please feel free to invite neighbours, friends, and families who may be looking for a school community to come and learn more about Briar Hill.

2026-27 Kindergarten Events:

🌱 Kindergarten Orientation – May 6 (6:00–7:00 p.m.)
An evening for families to learn about Briar Hill’s philosophy, beliefs, and approach to teaching and learning, and to support a smooth and welcoming transition into school.

🎒 Welcome to Kindergarten – June 10
A special visit for incoming Kindergarten students to spend time in the classroom, meet staff, and get a feel for what Kindergarten will be like. This helps students feel comfortable, confident, and excited as they prepare for the 2026–27 school year.

After Hours School Access 🏫

At Briar Hill, the safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority. As part of ongoing Provincial Safety & Security School Audits, we are continuing to review and strengthen our safety practices.

We ask for your support:

As the weather improves and more families are enjoying time on the playground after school, we’ve noticed an increase in requests to enter the building. We kindly ask that families plan ahead, as access to the school, including washrooms, is not available after school hours. If you do need to access the building, please come to the front doors and ring the doorbell to see if a staff member is available; however, office hours are limited after school.

Access to the building after school is supervised and limited. The Briar Hill Children’s Program staff are also following these same expectations and will only allow entry to those who are part of their program.

Thank you for helping us keep our school safe for everyone.

🎉 Briar Hill School Council & Foundation Update

You can find all School Council and Foundation information, including pizza ordering, fundraising, and upcoming events, on the Foundation website:
https://www.briarhillfoundation.com/

We are excited for our upcoming Family Carnival on April 23 (5:00–7:00 p.m.). Join us for an evening of family-friendly fun, games, music, dancing, and classic carnival treats like cotton candy and popcorn.

  • We encourage everyone to come dressed in their tackiest, wildest outfit or costume! Every child who arrives in costume will receive 1 free game ticket at the door.
  • If you are able to help out, volunteers are still needed and greatly appreciated—please click the link on the website to sign up.
  • Please note this is a parent/guardian-supervised event. All students must attend with an adult for the full duration of the event. Drop-offs are not permitted.

🚸 Traffic Safety Reminder

As we continue to prioritize student safety at Briar Hill School, we’d like to remind families of a few important traffic safety practices:

  • Playground/School Zone Speeds: Please observe posted school/playground zone speed limits and be mindful of signage around the school. (see image below)
  • Parking: We’ve noticed an increase in vehicles parking on the wrong side of the street. Please park in the correct direction to ensure clear visibility and safe traffic flow.
  • Safe Crossing: We’ve had several recent reminders with students about not crossing between parked cars. Please encourage your child to use designated crosswalks where drivers can clearly see them.

Thank you for helping us keep all of our students safe before and after school each day.

📚 Briar Hill Book Sale

Our annual Book Sale is back and is a wonderful opportunity to refresh home libraries while supporting a love of reading at school. We welcome gently used book donations, which can be dropped off at Briar Hill on Thursday evening or Friday morning.

Students will have the chance to explore and purchase affordable books during the sale next week, helping to spark excitement and joy around reading—something we continue to celebrate at Briar Hill every day.
