Briar Hill Families

Many of our classes have been enjoying the beautiful spring weather and have been walking to surrounding green spaces and parks. Research shows that encouraging children to play outside and teaching them how to navigate the geography of their community builds resilience and confidence.

As you move into the spring and summer, we hope you can continue to support your child(ren) to play outside and enjoy the beautiful landscape here in Briar Hill!

Take care,

Nathan deBoer

Principal

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration is ongoing and Briar Hill School is welcoming out of boundary families to register for Kindergarten. With small class sizes, strong literacy program, and a Reggio lens to learning, Briar Hill Kindergarten is an amazing space for students to start their school journey. If you, or someone you know, is looking for a strong Kindergarten program please contact the Briar Hill School office at Briarhill@cbe.ab.ca

Morning & Lunch Drop-off

With no busses and 227 students, mornings and afterschool are busy around Briar Hill School. I continue to see drivers make smart choices and choose safety over convenience with student pick-ups and drop offs. Thank you!

Daily I open the compound doors at 8:30am greeting each student as they come in. The doors close and classes start for the day at 8:40am. If your child arrives after 8:40am, please drop them off at the front doors to check-in with the office.

If your child goes home for lunch, please have them back in time for afternoon classes which start at 12:50pm.

2025-26 Planning

In May, we will begin the process of creating class lists for next year. As a staff, we spend a great deal of time preparing these lists to create optimal learning environments to ensure success for each student. The following criteria go into our processes:

  • Attention to the complexities of learning needs of specific students and as a group
  • Academic, social, and emotional needs of students
  • Matching of teacher skill set with student need
  • Keeping students with complimentary classmates / friends

Given the complexities detailed above, it is not possible for parents to request specific teachers. We believe our personalized processes allow us to make the best decision for your child. Should you have additional information regarding your child’s learning needs that you would like us to consider when creating class lists, please email Mr deBoer no later than May 9 at Nadeboer@cbe.ab.ca detailing this information.

School Council Meeting

With a good turnout at our last noon hour council meeting, we are trying it again. Our next Council meeting will be held on May 21 at 12:00pm in the Learning Commons.  Agenda and link for those wishing to join online will be sent out closer to the date.
