Dear Briar Hill Families,
As we arrive at the final week of school before the holiday break, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to our incredible school community. This time of year is filled with excitement, anticipation, and well-earned moments of rest, and it is also a powerful reminder of the care, commitment, and partnership that surround our students each day.
Thank you to our families for your ongoing support and trust, to our staff for their dedication and heart, and to our students for bringing curiosity, caring, resilience and connection into our school each day. It has been a wonderful month of learning and growth, and we are so proud of all that has been accomplished together.
As this will be our final update of the month, we hope the coming days offer your family time to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the season. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the new year.
With gratitude,
Nathan deBoer
Principal

Personal Mobile Devices In School
- With the holiday season here, many of our students may receive digital devices. A reminder to parents that personal mobile devices (any device that can connect to the Internet) is not permitted to be used in school. This includes cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, laptops, and SMART Watches.
- If a student brings a device to school, it is expected to be off and kept in the student’s backpack (Away for the Day). If a student has a device out they will be asked to put it away. If a second reminder is needed, the device will be kept in the office.
- If there needs to be communication between a student and home during the day, students are welcome to use the office phone, parents are welcome to email/call the office, stop by, or email the teacher.
- Thank you for your support and please see a few relevant links below:
Briar Hill Value Awards
- This Friday, we will recognize staff-nominated students who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to one of our four Values or shown significant growth in living out a Briar Hill Value.
- Be sure to watch for our Friday Instagram post celebrating these students and their achievements.
Attendance
- Thank you to the families that have been calling in their child's absence!
- Families that will be away from school for an extended period of time will be asked to complete an Extended Absence Form. Please let the office know.
Kindergarten & School Registration
- Kindergarten registration opening soon on January 12
- CBE Kindergarten Registration information can be found HERE
- As we start to dream and plan for the 2026-27 school year, we want to let families know that Briar Hill School is always excited to welcome new families to our learning community. Currently 41% of our student population is from outside of our walk zone. If you know a family seeking a dynamic community school with strong academics and smaller class sizes, please encourage them to contact the office or email Nathan deBoer at NADEBOER@cbe.ab.ca to arrange a school tour.
