Briar Hill School Families,
“If children feel safe, they can take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings, and grow.” – Alfie Kohn
A thriving school community is built on open communication and shared responsibility among families, staff, and students. Our close-knit and supportive community continues to be a true strength of Briar Hill School, fostering a welcoming environment where learners feel connected and supported.
By staying connected and working together, we ensure that successes are celebrated and challenges are navigated collaboratively. We look forward to coming together once again as a school community on February 26 for our Movie Night—a wonderful opportunity to connect, relax, and enjoy time together.
With gratitude,
Nathan deBoer
Principal

Parent Survey
- Families of Grade 4-6 students will have received the Alberta Education and Childcare Assurance Survey
- Please take time to complete the survey, sharing your thoughts and experiences that help shape the future of our school and education system.
- The survey asks for your perspective on key areas, including:
- Welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environments
- Student learning and engagement
- Parental involvement in children’s education
Report Cards:
- Report Cards will be available online through MyCBE on Tuesday Feb 24th.
- The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) K-9 report card uses a 1-4, outcome-based proficiency scale (1: Beginning, 2: Developing, 3: Well-Developed, 4: Mastery) to measure student progress against Alberta Education curriculum outcomes.
- Comments focus on specific areas of strength and growth, using updated, simplified K–6 comment stems aligned with the new curriculum. This common template is now used across all CBE schools as part of our ongoing work toward calibration and consistency between buildings.
