Briar Hill Families
This time of year is full of thoughtful reflection as our teachers focus on supporting each student’s growth—preparing report cards, updating IPPs, and administering the K–3 Alberta Education Early Years Assessments. Next week will be a shorter week for students, as Friday is a professional development day for our staff. These system wide sessions help build capacity in our educators, keeping their practice strong and ensuring our students continue to benefit from the best possible learning experiences.
With gratitude,
Nathan deBoer
2026-27 Planning & Registration
- Briar Hill continues to offer K-6 private tours for interested families, both within and outside our school boundaries. Welcoming new families into our close-knit learning community helps us maintain strong enrolment. Continued growth would further support and strengthen the programs and opportunities we are able to offer our students.
- Families interested in Kindergarten registration can find information on the public CBE website or families are welcome to contact the school office at 403-777-6140 for assistance.
Valentine's Day
- Classrooms will be hosting a modest Valentine's celebrations on February 11
- We are asking all staff & students to wear PINK and/or RED that day.
- We want everyone to feel included in our Valentine’s celebration. If your child would like to bring Valentines, please send enough for every student in the class and have your child sign their own name, as we will not be providing class lists. Thank you for helping us create a kind and fair celebration for all!
Plant Donations
- We are inviting living things into our school! Big or small, any plant donations are welcome to help brighten our common areas—like the office, hallways, & Learning Commons. Plants not only make our spaces more inviting, but they can also improve air quality, reduce stress, & even help students focus & feel calm while learning.
- If you have a plant you would like to donate, we would be so grateful! Please drop them off at the office.
Reminder: Away For the Day
- To help students stay focused, connected to their learning, and engaged with one another, personal mobile devices are “away for the day” during school hours.
- This includes any device that can connect to the internet, such as cell phones and Apple/Smart watches. These devices are not to be used at school.
- We appreciate your support in helping us create a calm, safe, and focused learning environment for all students.
- For more information, please review the Use of Personal Mobile Devices (PMD) in Schools for K-9 Students:
- If a student is using their personal mobil device at school:
- 1st Incident: Student reminder.
- 2nd Incident: Confiscation & student can pick it up at end of day from the office. Parent/Guardian Informed.
- 3rd Incident: Confiscation, parent informed, and parent picks up device from office
- 4th Incident: Device Plan: Device does not come to school OR device is daily dropped off at office
School Council & AGM Meeting
- Thank you to the many that were able to join our last meeting. We had the opportunity to review the events of the past month, share plans for the remaining school year, and talk about preliminary planning for the 2026-27 school year.
- Please join us Feb 24 @ 12:15-1:00 pm, in-person or virtually (link will be sent out closer to the date)
- SAVE THE DATE: School Council will be hosting two community evening events. More information to come!
- Feb 26: Movie Night
- April 23: Spring Dance
Toys & Treasures
- To help keep our school focused, safe, and respectful, students should not bring personal items such as toys, digital/Fitbit watches, or stuffies to school. These items can distract from learning, create conflict, and cannot be kept secure while at school.
- If a toy or game is causing distractions or conflicts, it may be set aside, and we will reach out to families. Please note that the school cannot take responsibility for lost or damaged items. Thank you for your support.
- *Before & After Care (Bike Room) allows students to bring a toys/stuffies on Fridays. Students are asked to keep items in their backpack until end of day.
